WESTFIELD - Jon Saeli scored the lone goal Saturday, as Fredonia upended Westfield-Brocton, 1-0, in CCAA West boys soccer action.
Matthew Sheridan and Kyle Leysath picked up the assist while Morghon Thompson made four saves to pick up the shutout
More important than the game, Saturday, was the ceremony that preceded the game, in which Westfield dedicated a field at the NorthLake Complex to Sgt. Kevin W. White, who lost his life in May, 2011 after being injured while serving with the Army in Afghanistan.
"It was good," Fredonia head coach Brett Gould said of getting the win. "It's nice to get a league win, but more importantly, it was the Kevin W. White memorial game. They have a nice sign over the scoreboard and they read a memorial piece about Kevin and his service. Then they dedicated the field.
"It was a neat moment," Gould continued. "And it was cool for the kids to see that. It gives perspective to why we get to do what we do."
