It was an impressive day for the Fredonia State Women's volleyball team as they downed Hilbert College (25-22, 25-12, 25-19) and Westminster (26-24, 25-20, 25-20) on the first day of the 2013 Blue Devil Invitational.
"Our focus has been to play with intensity from start to finish," Fredonia State coach Geoff Braun said. "I think both games we did that. We didn't want to succumb to point runs and just shake them off. We were good in those departments today."
In the host team's second match of the day against Westminster, Fredonia State jumped out to a 17-11 lead.

However, the Titans came back strong to tie the game up 17-all.
After a back and forth struggle, the Blue Devils found their footing and took a 1-0 lead behind a 26-24 score.
In the second game it was Westminster that came out to a commanding lead with a 5-1 run to start.
Fredonia State went on to tie the game up 14-all before going on a six-point scoring run to take a solid lead.
The Blue Devils eventually went on to take the second game 25-20.
"I was happy with our defense," Braun said. "Last weekend we weren't real happy with the way our defense played. They played well both at the net and on the floor."
In the third game it was once again the Blue Devils that came out strong with a 9-1 run.
Although Westminster was able to make the game, Fredonia State held the lead the entire game as the Blue Devils took the match in three sets and moved in contention for a big day today in the second half of the tournament.
"Our middle attack has really come around," Braun said. "It is becoming a big part of our game. Jessica DiChristopher and Hannah Manning both blocked well and hit for us."
Manning had nine kills to lead the Devils. Sara Madison had eight kills and DiChristopher had seven. Manning added three service aces to her offensive output. Kelly Edinger had 23 assists. Defensively, Edinger had 13 digs and Lauren Hokaj had 16. DiChristopher added four blocks.
In the Blue Devils' first match against Hilbert College, Manning and Kaitlin Orcutt led the team with eight kills apiece, while Lauren O'Hara and Lauren Hokaj each had six digs in the victory.
"Hilbert is a good team with a good offensive attack," Braun said. "We were very businesslike against them and played with the intensity that we've been focusing on."
The Blue Devils will hit the court again today at 11 a.m. against LaRoche and will play again at 3 p.m. against RIT. Both teams finished Friday 1-1, while the Blue Devils were the only team to win both matchups.
