Another round of employee reductions has beset the Dunkirk industrial community. AL Tech Specialty Steel Corp. announced today they have made "a sizable reduction in the company's salaried workforce." Citing a continuing decline in sales because of the foreign import market, the company said the terminations were needed to maintain a proper fiscal balance. The company would not release the exact number of permanent layoffs, or a percentage figure.
Thirty years ago - 1983
The wedding dress worn by Georgina Salmond for her marriage to Kirby Hayward on Jan. 11, 1883 will be featured at the fashion exhibit at the Dunkirk Historical Museum. Their wedding took place in the Dunkirk home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Salmond on what is now Lake Shore Drive. The dress was given to the society by their daughter, Miss Emily G. Hayward of Lincoln Arms Apartments, Dunkirk.

David M. Civilette, 25, of 122 Lincoln Ave., Dunkirk announced today the opening of his law office at 427 Central Ave., Dunkirk. He is a member of the American and State Bar associations and graduated from Dunkirk High School and the University of Buffalo School of Law.

A low-rent housing unit in Dunkirk for senior citizens has been pledged by Republican mayoral candidate Dale Forness. The proposal was announced by Donald Sharman, GOP candidate for Second Ward councilman.
