SOUTH DAYTON - The Maple Grove Lady Red Dragons (1-12, 1-13) came into the match fresh off their first win of the season, but the Pine Valley Lady Panthers (3-6, 8-8) were able to stop that momentum with a 25-19, 25-17, 25-18 victory Friday in a non-league girls volleyball matchup.
Kayla Mansfield led the Lady Panthers attack with 13 kills and an ace while Ahleen Pollock chipped in 21 assists and two aces of her own. Aaren Waterman recorded three blocks and as many kills. Aleah Fancher added two digs, an ace and two kills in the win.
"We didn't start slow like we did last game," Pine Valley coach Justina Troutman said. "But we still made errors that cost us some points. It was a win, but we still have a lot to work on. We have a really good group and I'm hoping that something clicks. We have so much individual talent, it just needs to come together as a team."
Sierra Sterenza recorded 30 digs in the loss for Maple Grove. Nicole Hemminger had five kills and a block while Paige Hammond added three kills.
