Chaut. Lake 2, Dunkirk 1
Courtney Hewes scored two second-half goals to help the Chautauqua Lake Lady Thunderbirds escape Dunkirk (2-13) with a 2-1 win over the Lady Marauders on Tuesday in CCAA West girls high school soccer.
The home team got on the board first as Kyle Bentley found the back of the net from Emilee Hanlon.
However, in the second half, Hewes scored 17 minutes in and scored the game-winner 10 minutes later on a breakaway.
Dunkirk had a few scoring opportunities in the final minutes, but ran out of time.
Rachel Fortney was the winning goalie with 17 saves while Aimee Kaufman was the tough-luck losing goalie with four saves.
"We dominated time of possession and generated a lot of offense," Dunkirk coach Phil Cook said. "We didn't get a lot of quality chances though. The one we did, it went in. Fortney did a nice job keeping the others out of the net."
The Lady Marauders celebrated Senior Night as 10 seniors played their final home game.
"I want to commend them for their dedication to the program and effort they put in," Cook said. "I want to thank them for the example they set for the younger girls on the team."
Dunkirk plays at Falconer on Thursday.
