SILVER CREEK - Silver Creek Central School celebrated School Board Appreciation Week a little early Wednesday.
Superintendent Daniel Ljiljanich explained the board does not have a meeting scheduled between Oct. 28 and Nov. 1, so the board was invited to a dinner before Wednesday's meeting.
"We provided them with a small token of appreciation of dinner and dessert," he said. "I don't think a majority of the public knows how much time the board puts in, in addition to the meetings twice a month. They have committee meetings, Chautauqua County School board meetings ... and I just want to thank you for what you do."

Board President Martha Howard thanked Ljiljanich for the praise, but said being a board member is rewarding.
"It is extremely rewarding when you can do work and see things change for the better. It is well worth it," she said.
Resident Anna Frederickson also praised the board for their work without compensation.
The board authorized a contract with ADPRO Sports for basketball uniforms not to exceed $3,840.
It also appointed Jim White as modified wrestling coach, Jodie Ward as the new Clerk II and Bethanie Keen as the new Junior Jazzers advisor.
Ljiljanich said he and Business Administrator Cindy Mackowiak will be reviewing and updating the reserve plan for the school, which was put in place during budget preparations last year.
Ljiljanich reported that spirit week went very well and that fall sports teams including soccer, shared girls swimming, volleyball and football, have all had successful and competitive seasons.
A faculty basketball game will be held Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. in the high school gym. Proceeds will go to Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the junior class.
The next board meeting will be held Nov. 13 and there will not be a second board of education meeting in November in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
