Mary Ann Russo, 91, of Dunkirk, New York, died Friday (Oct. 25, 2013) at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born April 13, 1922 in Dunkirk, New York, to Samuel and Rose (Salemi) Lima. It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of one of Dunkirk's beloved and respected pioneer business women. 525 Main St. has been a family owned business in Dunkirk for over a century, beginning with Rose Fruit Market and continues today as Mary's Deli, one of Dunkirk's landmarks. Many businesses have come and gone, but Mary's hard work and compassionate ways solidified Mary's Deli as a cornerstone of Dunkirk commerce.
Mary was preceded in death by her son Joel David Russo, and also by her husband Joseph Samuel Russo. She is survived by her daughter Priscilla (Robert) Lawrence, her son Samuel "Kevin" (Jennifer Phillips) Russo and her six grandchildren who affectionately referred to her as "Nana": Aric Lawrence, Devin Lawrence, Giovani Russo, Sofia Russo, Mariella Russo and Aria Russo, as well as, several nieces and nephews and an amazing group of friends, whom she referred to as family and loved so dearly.
