A 41-year-old South Dayton tractor-trailer driver was injured after he apparently swerved to miss a deer while driving eastbound on Route 20 near Walden Road late Sunday night in the town of Pomfret.
Chautauqua County Sheriff's deputies reported that John M. D'Angelo's tractor-trailer left the south side of the road near Walden Road and traveled along the ditch, striking two trees and a utility pole around 11:30 p.m. The utility pole came down on top of the cab of the truck, but D'Angelo was able to exit the cab to safety.
The trailer had been carrying empty grape boxes at the time of the accident. The tractor was heavily damaged in the accident and was towed from the scene.
