David Meerse, 74, of Albany NY, formerly of Fredonia, died Sept. 26, 2013.
He was born August 19, 1939 in Ogallala, NE to the late Adrian J. and Minnie Meerse.
David taught in the History Department at SUNY Fredonia from 1966 to 1986. He then held various positions in the Presbyterian Church. He was perhaps most proud of serving as the Stated Clerk of the New York City Presbytery, the first lay person to hold that position in the 250-year history of that Presbytery. He loved his family and his cats and enjoyed historical research, singing in church choirs, and doting on his granddaughter
He is survived by his wife, Clancy Cherry Meerse; daughter Katherine (David Woodard) of Saint Paul, MN and son John (Stephanie) and granddaughter, Lily, of Simsbury, CT.
Funeral services have been held. Memorials are directed to the Presbyterian Historical Society at 425 Lombard St., Philadelphia PA., 19147, or the First Presbyterian Church, 362 State Street, Albany, NY 12210 for music ministry.
