SUNY Fredonia to host handmade pottery sale today
Students and alumni from the Department of Visual Arts and New Media at SUNY Fredonia will stage a sale of handmade pottery at the Williams Center Multipurpose Room today from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The one-of-a-kind gift items have been glazed and are both dishwasher and microwave safe.
Proceeds from the sale will benefit current students and alumni, who will use the sale to raise money to meet living expenses, as well as the Dunkirk Friendly Kitchen. The sale is open to campus and community members.
Turkey Dinner Tuesday
The United Church in Ellicottville will hold an Election Day Turkey Dinner Tuesday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Take-outs are available. Diners are asked to use the Elk Street entrance to get to the church hall.
Breast Cancer Support Group meets Wednesday
The Dunkirk-Fredonia Breast Cancer Support Group will meet on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Doctors' Library at Brooks Memorial Hospital.
Valley Historical Society meets Tuesday
The next meeting of the Valley Historical Society will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Cassadaga American Legion 1280. Nomination of officers for 2014 will be made. Todd Langworthy, Town of Pomfret historian, will present the program.
Dunkirk Free Library offers computer classes
The Dunkirk Free Library announces its November computer class schedule. These community classes are free and open to the public, and due to their popularity, they fill up fast. Interested parties should contact the library at 366-2511 as soon as possible.
A "Basic Computers" class will be held from today to Nov. 15, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. There will be six sessions. This class is teleconferenced from Jamestown.
An "Introduction to Mi-crosoft Word" class will be held Nov. 5 to Nov. 21, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. There will be six total sessions.
Ahira Library pre-school story hour on Friday
Pre-school story hour will be held with Mrs. Westin and Mrs. Raymond at the Ahira Hall Memorial Library in Brocton. Child-ren can bring a favorite bear and come into the library for stories, songs and a craft at 10 a.m. Friday. For more information, call the library at 792-9418.
Author to visit SUNY Fredonia Tuesday
Syracuse University graduate and award-winning transgendered novelist Elliott DeLine will visit SUNY Fredonia on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in 202 McEwan Hall to read from his most recent novella, "I Know Very Well How I Got My Name." He is also the author of "Refuse" and several other books. A book signing and open discussion will follow the reading. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this event.
