A Pomfret man lost his life Sunday in a tractor accident at 8842 Chautauqua Road.
State Police at Fredonia responded to the accident at 12:17 p.m. Chautauqua County Coroner Rick Mackowiak pronounced Michael Travis, 67, dead on the scene.
"It looked like the tractor slipped out of gear and ran him over," Trooper Sgt. Long said Monday.
Long said investigation into the accident is ongoing and Mackowiak has requested an autopsy.
A similar accident claimed the life of James Hall, 60, of West Ellicott in the town of Busti on May 2.
Tractor accidents are the leading cause of death on farms, most commonly due to rollovers.
Rollover protection structures have been found to reduce injury and death by 99 percent when used with a seat belt (70 percent without). New York state offers a 70 percent rebate on rollover protection structures.
