Members of the Cassadaga American Legion Post 1280 Honor Guard visited some of the local nursing homes on Veterans Day to hold a special service and remember our veterans. Participating with the 25 members of the Honor Guard were Sons of the American Legion and members of the Legion Women's Auxiliary. The group paid their respects to the veterans who are residents of the Heritage Village in Gerry, the Fredonia Place in Fredonia and the Chautauqua County Home in Dunkirk. The service, led by Marine veteran Bruce Kaus, began with the pledge of allegiance, followed by a prayer by chaplain John Bellardo Jr. and then a moment for the MIA and POW's. Kaus then asked for a moment of silence to remember these people. Following the opening ceremony, veterans were recognized by name and the branch of service. A thank you was extended to each of the veterans by those from the Cassadaga American Legion. The Cassadaga American Legion is an active organization, and recently contributed monetary donations to the VA's in Buffalo, Erie, Batavia and Canandaigua, and also the Batavia VA hospital. The Cassadaga American Legion is located in the village of Cassadaga on Maple Avenue.
