NORTH COLLINS - On Nov. 8, 16 students from the North Collins Jr.-Sr. High School braved the elements for the first Sleep-Out for the Homeless event organized by student government advisor Heather Shean.
Participants had to sacrifice the use of any electronics for the evening and were not permitted to bring in food. Prior to the event, the students collected pledges to sleep in a box on the sidewalks at the high school.
Tickets were issued based on the amount of pledges collected and could be used to purchase soup or hot chocolate in a "soup kitchen" located onsite and manned by student volunteers Rebecca Walden and Josh Fera.
North Collins Central School students Carly Richardson, Veronica Richardson and Molly Franz sleep outside the school in boxes as part of a fundraiser for the homeless.
Over $2,000 was raised and will be donated to the Eden/North Collins Food Pantry and the North Collins Neediest Fund. Thank you to everyone who supported or participated in this great event.
Sleep-Out student participants included: Hannah Armbruster, Emma Dosser, Molly Franz, Julia Haney, Destiny Kennedy, Jenna Keppel, Beth Kibler, Wayne Lawrence, Rebecca Lee, Liz Novoa, Carly Richardson, Jessica Schiffman, Ryan Schiffman, Katie Steff, Katie Yoder and Rebekah Yoder.
