ELMIRA - The Fredonia State men's basketball team led at the half, but could not hold on, falling at Elmira College, 79-65, on Sunday. The Soaring Eagles went on a 16-0 run late in the half to take control of the game.
Senior Tyrone Clark, an Elmira native, scored 22 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had four steals to lead the Blue Devils. John Kovach added 14 and senior Ray Parris chipped in 11.
Clark had 18 points in the first half as the Blue Devils built a 38-34 lead. The Blue Devils' biggest lead of nine points, 38-29, came with two minutes left in the first. Elmira closed the half with a layup and a three pointer to close the gap to four.
The Devils led just past the midway point of the second stanza. Clark connected on a free throw to put the Blue Devils up one, 54-53, with 8:39 on the clock.
Elmira would take control from there, going on the 16-0 run to take a 69-54 lead with 4:13 remaining. Kovach had eight points in the second half to lead the Blue Devils.
Neil Randolph led Elmira, who improves to 2-3, with 27 points. He was one of four players to score in double-digits.
The Blue Devils dropped to 1-3. They travel to D'Youville College on Tuesday as part of a men's/women's doubleheader.
