The Dunkirk Marauders opened up their season with a convincing 47-24 victory over the Salamanca Warriors on Tuesday in non-league high school wrestling.
"I thought we were very aggressive," Dunkirk coach Joe McMurdy said. "One of the things we were happy was with we got a lot of first takedowns and controlled the match as much as possible. We are a pretty young team. For the first time out, I thought they did very well."
Tito Colom and Hector Colom picked up right where they left off last season with dominating performances. At 113-pounds, Hector Colom picked up a 15-0 technical fall victory over Kyle Perkins. Meanwhile, at 126, Tito Colom pinned Cole Quigly in just 1:20.

At 170, Mike Adams earned a 1:22 pin over Vick Vaughn and at 182, Marquis Buchanan earned a 15-0 technical fall win over Austin White.
"It was his first varsity win," McMurdy noted. "I thought he wrestled real well."
Adrian Alverado had a stellar showing at 195 as he pinned Markus Zaprowski in 3:54. Teammate Nick Jones had the fastest pin of the night as he finished off Caleb Kettle in :16.
At 106, Dunkirk's Yeidy Santiago was impressive in her first varsity match, despite being pinned with just one second left in the match.
"She was in a real close match," McMurdy noted. "At one point it was 8-7. She wrestled really well and we're very happy with her performance.
"We are going to lean on four or five guys we need pins out of to be competitive," McMurdy said. "The Coloms are two of them (along with) Marquis Buchanan, Nick Jones and guys with experience. The big thing is we want to get pins and not get pinned. That's the whole idea of the dual meet."
The Marauders return to action next Wednesday at Falconer.
"They won the league last year and were undefeated," McMurdy said. "It will be a good test."
