GOWANDA - With the new year, there will be a new change to the Gowanda Village Board. Trustee John Certis announced he was resigning at a recent meeting.
Mayor Heather McKeever read Certis' letter of resignation. He cited a time commitment from his personal and professional life as reason for resignation. Certis has served on the board for 8 years. McKeever thanked Certis for his time on the board.
"Thank you for time served," said McKeever. "Thank you for your eight years you have been steadfast and helped this village, including through a flood that affected you."
Certis appreciated the warm wishes from the board and he said he will miss the board. Since Certis' resignation will create a vacancy on the board, McKeever said she has the authority to appoint a trustee. She announced she will appoint Pete Sisti as trustee with a term expiring March 31, 2014.
The village board also approved the hire of full-time police officer Sean Campas and approved the purchase of a space heater for the Hidi Fire Department at the cost of $1,280.
Village Clerk Kathy Mohawk announced the county tax re-levies would need to be increased. Cattaraugus County would increase by $95.04 and Erie County by $17.28. The board also approved a new taser purchase for the police department for $2,174.84. The board will hold its next meeting on Jan. 14.
