Former Dunkirk resident promoted to lieutenant colonel in the Army

U.S. Army Officer Lou Karnes was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel on Dec. 13. A 1993 graduate of Dunkirk High School, Karnes entered the United States Military Academy in June of 1993 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in May 1997. He currently serves as an Assistant Program Manager for the MH-47G Chinook helicopter program in support of Special Operations Acquisition at Fort Eustis, Virginia. Karnes is a Chinook pilot and maintenance test pilot, has deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan, and has been stationed in multiple locations in the U.S., South Korea, and Germany. He, his wife of 15 years, Rachel (Dolce), also of Dunkirk, and their daughters, Kathryn (11), Elizabeth (10), and Cecelia (6) now live in Williamsburg, Va.
