Winter's wrath can bring some spectacular scenery.
Last week, almost right on cue, the Audubon Center & Sanctuary in Jamestown held a "Searching for Snowy Owls" event in Jamestown. According to a news release, the arctic birds "have flown south in large numbers."
One day after the news release was published, a reader submitted a photo of - you guessed it - a snowy owl in the town of Dunkirk. The photo was sent in by Mike Joy of Portland.
But New York is not alone in the snowy owl sightings. Many have also been seen in Michigan and Ohio.
Recent weather has been kind to the snowy owls of the area. Keep your eyes open for one of nature's gems, which are expected to stay here until the spring.
