GOWANDA - Richard J. Klancer, 86, of Beech Street died Saturday, January 25, 2013 at the Gowanda Nursing Home.
He was born November 11, 1927 in Gowanda, NY the son of the late Leo and Anna (Leonard) Klancer.
On November 26, 1949 he married the former Jane Fuss who survives.
Mr. Klancer was a WWII and Korean War Veteran having served in the US Navy. He served on the USS Wisconsin during WWII.
He was employed at Moench Tanning in Gowanda for over 30 years. He was a member of the Gowanda American Legion Post 409 for 25 years, Gowanda VFW Post 5007, Gowanda Moose, Hidi Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Slovenian Club.
Besides his wife of 64 years he is survived by a son, Richard L. (Linda) Klancer of Gowanda, NY; 2 daughters, Lindy (Dale) Rogan of Cattaraugus, NY and Brenda (Dan) Curry of South Carolina; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by 3 brothers Leo, Frank and Louis Klancer and 3 sisters Mary Matekovich, Molly Tingue and Jennie Wilber.
Friends may call at the Mentley Funeral Home Inc. 105 East Main Street in Gowanda, NY on Monday, January 27, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home followed by Military Honors.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Go-wanda, NY
