SILVER CREEK Registration for the Silver Creek Central School District's Community Education Program is under way for the Winter 2014 session.
You do not have to be a resident of the Silver Creek School district to enroll in these courses. For more information about a specific course, to pre-register by phone, or if you are interested in teaching a course, call 951-8111. Speak clearly and leave your name, phone number, and classes of interest.
After pre-registering, participants should send in their money for the course, as they will only be contacted should a class be canceled due to inclement weather or insufficient enrollment, in which case their money will be refunded. There is a 15 percent senior citizens discount that will be honored for all participants 65 years of age and older. Checks should be made out to SCCS Community Education and mailed to: Silver Creek CS, PO Box 270 Dickinson St., Silver Creek, N.Y., 14136, Attn: Community Education. Classes will not meet when school is closed for a holiday or inclement weather.
The first five classes are being offered by Sue Balogh, a certified Reiki Master/Teacher and spiritual life coach and a member of IARP International Association of Reiki Professionals. All of her classes will meet from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in room 308.
Wish More Wellness Workshop will meet on March 1. Be inspired; learn simple powerful ways to help yourself feel better, live a healthier and happier life. Included are energy healing methods, personalized wish list, vision board, inspiring affirmations, and guided meditation. Registration fee is $40.
Reiki I First Degree Reiki Class will meet on March 8. This class is for those who wish to perform Reiki treatments on themselves or become a Reiki Practitioner. Reiki I will qualify you as a First Degree Reiki Practitioner. You will receive a certificate of completion and manual. The fee is $125 with a supply fee of $10 to be paid to the instructor.
Reiki II Second Degree Reiki Class will meet on March 15. This class will take you further into self-discovery and give you more powerful tools to promote healing in yourself or others. You will receive an IARP certificate of completion and manual. Pre-requisite: First Degree Reiki Certification must be received in advance. The fee is $125 with a supply fee of $10, waived if you are also registering for Reiki I.
Reiki Master Training will meet on March 22. Be attuned to the Master Symbol; learn the Reiki symbol for spiritual healing, enhancing your intuition for yourself and others. Receive a Reiki Master's Certificate and manual. Pre-requisite: First and Second Degree Reiki Certification. The fee is $150.
Reiki Teacher Training will meet on March 29. This training prepares you to pass along all levels of the Reiki attunements and teach classes. The attunements are demonstrated and the teacher's manual gives full details for you to practice. Marketing techniques and tips on setting up a web site will be presented. You will receive an IARP certificate of completion (with seal) and manual, and be given permission to photocopy all levels of the manual for use in your classes. Pre-requisite: First and Second Degree and Reiki Master Certification.
Yoga/Pilates will be offered by Karen Bogosian on Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m. for 5 weeks beginning Jan. 23. Class will be held at The Backline, 19 Park Place, Silver Creek. Parking is available on the square. Registration fee is $25.
Aquacize will be offered by Jean Mahaney on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Session 1 runs from Jan. 2 through Feb. 13 and Session 2 runs from Feb. 27 through Apr. 10. These classes are held in the pool and the fee is $20 per session or $40 for both.
Body Boot Camp: Offered by Lisa Capitano on Tuesday and Thursday, Jan. 14 through March 27 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Geared toward all fitness levels, includes conditioning, cardio, plyometrics, core strength, stretching. Fee is $50.
Men's basketball will be run by Dwayne Haskins from March 3 to June 9 in the elementary gym on Mondays from 8 to 10 p.m. The fee is $20.
Women's Basketball will be run by Jane Hogg from March 4 to May 27 in the elementary gym on Tuesdays from 8 to 10 p.m. The fee is $20.
Three classes are offered by Jennie Kaleta this session. Introduction to Belly Dance will be held on Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. for 6 weeks beginning March 3. Come and learn the basic moves of this ancient dance form. Class will be held in the high school gymnasium and the fee is $30. Belly Dance Choreography will be held on Mondays from 7 to 8 p.m., immediately following Intro. To Belly Dance, in the high school gymnasium. It will run for six weeks beginning March 3. This class is for those who have already taken basic belly dance. Learn new combinations using moves learned in the beginner class. Registration fee is $30. Hula Hooping will run for 5 weeks starting on April 28 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the elementary gym. Learn the basics of waist, hip and chest hooping. Hoop will be available to use and/or buy. Registration fee is $25.
Two levels of dog obedience will be taught by Cheryl Robinson and Sarah Winton. All dogs must be at least 12 weeks old and on a 6-foot leash. Current rabies certification is required. Classes run for six weeks. Beginners are on Tuesdays, starting Jan. 28, from 6 to 7 p.m. Advanced meets Tuesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. The classes will be held in the Elementary Lobby, with a fee of $75 per dog.
Extreme Couponing: The first steps will be offered by Patrice Zagorski on March 10 and 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in room 217. In this two-night course you will learn why you should use coupons, where to find them and how to use them for maximum success. Also learn how to use coupons outside of the grocery store. Registration fee is $25.
Rubber Stamp Card Making will be taught by Jody Enser. This course is offered on Tuesdays in five separate classes: Feb. 4, March 4, April 1, May 6, June 3 each offering slightly different ideas. You will make two each of four different cards. Classes meet in room 154 HS from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Class fee is $5 per class or $20 for all five. There is also a supply fee of $5 to be paid to the instructor during class time.
Basics of Oil Painting under the instruction of Barney Kuzara Jr., meets on Tuesdays from Feb. 25 through April 22 from 6 to 8 p.m., in Room 149 in the HS, at the cost of $40 plus supplies. Supply list will be provided at the first class.
5-Hour Pre-licensing Class will be taught by Tom Herring on Feb. 15 or May 10 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 217 HS. This is the minimal requirement necessary to schedule and take a road test: this 5-hour course will provide the MV-285 certificate. Bring your driver permit and food; a snack break will be provided. Class fee is $30.
Researching Your Family History is being offered by Susan Dietzen in room 193 HS from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays from April 22 to May 20. Learn how to use the Internet to search and find answers about your ancestors. Class fee is $25. There is also a supply fee of $5 to be paid to the instructor during class time.
Three classes are offered by Allen Dembski, financial advisor with Waddell & Reed. Income for Life: Will Your Savings Last as Long as You do? will be presented on March 25 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the HS Library. Find out how you can accumulate funds for retirement, manage taxes, fight the effects of inflation, and generate an income you can't outlive. The registration fee is $5.
Retirement Investment Strategies. This class will be held in the HS Library on April 8 from 6 to 7 p.m. Learn sound strategies that will help you improve your financial situation. Class fee is $5.
Social Security will be presented on April 2 and April 23 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the HS Library. This is a general overview of certain rules related to Social Security. The discussion will cover topics you should know about before filing for benefits. Class fee is $5.
Knitting - Beginner & Intermediate will be taught by Candace Kuppel. Class will meet on Tuesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and will run for eight weeks beginning Jan. 28. Supplies needed for: Beginner level: 1- 6 oz. skein 4 ply worsted yarn and 1 pair of short needles size 5 to 10, Intermediate level: pattern and supplies required for your pattern. Classes will meet in Room 145 HS and the registration fee is $40. Minimum 2 students.

CPR and AED Review & Challenge is offered by Nancy Hargrave on March 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Pool & Room 309. This class is for those who have already been trained in CPR and AED and need to get re-certified. Bring your own airway mask and a check made out to the American Red Cross for $19.00 to pay for your certificate. Class fee is $25. Students must be 15 years of age of older.
Mommy/Daddy and Me Swim will be taught by Jean Mahaney & Alesha Helman on Wednesdays from May 7 to June 11, from 4 to 4:30 p.m. in the pool. Parent to child ratio must be 1:1. Swim pants must be worn by infants and toddlers not yet potty trained. Registration fee is $25 per child.
