GOWANDA - Thomas Claire Taft of Nash Hill Road passed away at home unexpectedly Friday morning, February 7, 2014. He was 57.
Born in Silver Creek, NY September 8, 1956 the son of Claire and Donna (Abers) Taft.
Tom was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. He held various jobs in Western New York including Kings Doors and Windows, Bush Industry's, and Congdon and Weller. Tom ran a tree service providing fire wood for many in the area. At the time of his death he and Gretchen D. Oger (his companion of 15 years and mother of his daughter) had several farm animals that they took care of at their farm house which included cows, pigs and of course their dogs and cat.
Surviving, besides Gretchen, Tom is survived by his daughter Kaitlyn Estes of Collins, grandson Dylan Estes, sister Marjorie Taft of Collins, three nieces and a nephew, his "mother- in-law" Mary Ann Oger of Collins, along with many friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his father Claire (1995), his mother Donna (2003) and Gretchen's fa-ther John E. Oger (2004).
Friends may call at the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME, 44 Center St. Gowanda, 532-4200 from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday where funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home. Private family interment to follow in the Park Lawn Cemetery Wesley where he will be laid to rest next to his father.
Memorials may be made to the family to help defray final expenses.
