W. Jack Woodbury, 90, of Fredonia, NY, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2014, at Hamot Medical Center and following wonderful visits from his entire immediate family in the preceding days.
Jack was born January 15, 1924, in Dunkirk, NY, the son of Wendell and Lillian (Towne) Woodbury of Sheridan, NY. He was educated in Sheridan district schools, Dunkirk High School, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He and Doris Carr were married on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 1945, and lived happily together for more than 68 years.
Following service in the US Navy during World War II where he was a PBY Catalina pilot and flight instructor, he practiced civil engineering and land surveying for thirty years.
Besides his wife, Jack is survived by two daughters, Wendy (Joe) Straight of Arkwright, Vicky (Tim) Smolinski of Vienna, Virginia; by two sons, Randy of Dunkirk, and Tim of Akron, NY; by a brother Gary (Robin) of Florida and Sheridan; and by three granddaughters, Lillia Woodbury, Bernadette Woodbury, and Ava Smolinski.
He was predeceased by his parents; by his infant son, Ronald; and by his brother, Robert.
At Jack's request, there will be no visitation nor memorial service as he donated his body to medical science. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date.
