CASSADAGA - Jean J. Shutt, 71, of Cassadaga, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at home.
Born Nov. 29, 1942 in Dunkirk, daughter of the late Sam and Alice Arnold Diate. She was a Chautauqua County resident all of her life and a 1963 graduate of Fredonia Central High School.
Jean was employed at Tops Markets in Dunkirk and Fredonia in the Deli and then as a cashier at Wal-Mart in Fredonia retiring in 2002 due to health. In her earlier years she tied grapes for various farms.
She was an election worker for the Town of Charlotte. Jean enjoyed crocheting, gardening, animals, was a NASCAR fan following Dale Earnhardt Jr. but most of all loved time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wife of 50 years to William "Bill" Shutt whom she married May 9, 1964; mother of Jim of Brocton, William "Bill" (Kimberly) Jr. of Princeton, NC and Steven (Elizabeth) Shutt of Silver Creek; grandmother of Jimmy, Debbie, Christopher and Brandon Shutt, Emily and Jessica Fuchs, Briana Kenjockety, Buddy Sanders, Jacob and James Frost; great-grandmother of Payson, Hayden, Bentley, Dominic, Jazmyn, Kaleb, Jayden and Ariana; sister of Donna (Frank) Gugino of Douglas, TN, Bonnie (Doug) Le Barron of Silver Creek, Sandy Palmer, Sam Diate of Stockton and Danny (Linda) Diate of Chatmansboro, TN. Also survived by nieces and nephews.
Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville. Visitation 5-8 p.m. Friday. Burial in Charlotte Center Cemetery.
