Steelers Bantam team wins Erie tournament

The Northern Chautauqua County Youth Hockey Association Steelers Bantam travel team went undefeated in claiming the title of the 2014 Joe McCallion tournament. Goalie Nick Merlino was named the Most Valuable Player in the championship game victory over West Seneca, 3-1. Mike Meredith had two goals while Christopher Buchanan added the third. The Steelers defeated Erie, 7-3; Fort Erie, 4-2; and Wheatfield, 6-1, to earn the chance at the title on Sunday morning. Other team members include: Austin Lewis, Andy Tooley, Christian Michalski, Taylor Mattoon, Zachary Rybak, Luke Mleczko, Cole Tippens, Dawson Rafan, Nicholas Pchelka, Carter D'Agostino, Owen Nicosia and Stephen Aldrich. Team coaches are Jeff Meredith, Mike Michalski, Chuck Nicosia and Ron Rybak. The Steelers conclude their season this weekend during the NCCYHA Tournament, which begins today and lasts through Monday.
