More help for the financially strapped Lake Shore Hospital has arrived.
Congressman Tom Reed gave an update Friday on the status of funding owed to Lake Shore Hospital. Reed said approximately $1.2 million was released to the hospital Thursday from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to the TLC Hospital Network for Lake Shore. Reed said the funds will help the hospital's ongoing cash flow problems.
"With the help of this funding, the hospital can keep its doors open longer and continue to serve the community," Reed added. "The hospital's long-term viability is a developing situation and we will continue the work to prevent families from having to travel to look elsewhere for critical care."
John Galati, interim CEO of TLC said, "Recently, TLC Health Network received approximately $1.2 million in reimbursements from FEMA and the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services related to the flood of 2009 and the destruction of Tri County Memorial Hospital in Gowanda. Congressman Reed and Senator Schumer were both instrumental in helping us receive these funds in a timely manner.
"As a result, TLC Health Network has been able to continue operations and providing vital health services to the community, as we seek out potential partners to help emerge from Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and ensure our long-term future. As we work toward this reorganization, we are truly grateful for the support of Congressman Reed and Senator Schumer, as well as that of our community, employees, medical staff, and board of directors."
Reed has been working with Galati and state and local officials to keep pressure on FEMA to release funds owed to the TLC Hospital Network in response to damage caused by severe flooding in 2009. The approximately $1.2 million released this week is in addition to the funds Reed secured in January.
