Cody Cunningham and Margaret Wright were selected as Fredonia Rotary Students of the month for March.
Cody Cunningham, a senior at Fredonia High School is the son of Jeff and Vicky Cunningham and has a twin sister, Aubrey.
Cody ranks in the top 15 percent of his class with an overall average of 94 percent for his senior year. He has appeared on the honor roll every semester of high school and has received the Principal's award every year. Chosen as Student of the Month at Fredonia High School during his junior and senior years, he was recently selected as the YNN Scholar Athlete of the Week.
Cody has concentrated on basketball during his school years. When he played JV basketball, he received the Coach's Choice Award as a sophomore, was selected as a team captain and was brought up to varsity for playoffs. As a junior, he was awarded the Most Improved Player Award and selected to be a captain in his senior year. At the end of his senior year, he was selected to the All-Star team and was an honorable mention for 1st and 2nd team in Chautauqua County.
Actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America for many years, Cody is currently completing his Eagle Scout project. Through Boy Scouts, he has volunteered his service to the community through other Eagle Scout Projects, volunteering at the Lakeshore Humane Society, and participating in food drives and trail clean-ups.
Cody was accepted through the early decision program to the University at Buffalo's engineering program. He plans to pursue a degree in industrial engineering, as well as an MBA. He was awarded the university's Provost Scholarship.
Margaret Wright, also a senior at FHS, is the daughter of Tim and Yvonne Wright. She is in the top twenty percent her class, and has made the honor roll each year. She has taken four AP courses (U.S. history, psychology, calculus and English) and will graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors.
Involved with sports at Fredonia since seventh grade, she has played varsity softball and volleyball. In softball she received the Coaches Award, and All-League Honorable Mention. The captain of the volleyball team for the past two years, Margaret received the MVP, as well as 2nd Team All-League and All-League Honorable Mention. Although active in sports, she values academics and is proud to have been a scholar athlete in every season she has played throughout her high school athletic career.
Also displaying an interest in music, she has attended CCMTA All-County Women's choir during her freshman, junior and senior years. and participated in the musical program all four years of high school. Her roles have included General Cast in Godspell, Tzeitel in Fiddler on the Roof, Gloria in Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Mrs. Doris MacAfee in Bye Bye Birdie.
Other activities include the yearbook staff, the National Honor Society and Key Club through which she has volunteered for such activities as Special Olympics, Santa's Workshop and a teacher's assistant for a kindergarten class.
Currently undecided about the college she will attend, Margaret was accepted by Geneseo and Binghamton, but is awaiting decisions from other schools. She plans to major in biology and minor in Spanish linguistics. She hopes to study abroad in college and one day become a member of the Peace Corps.
