Falconer Central School, with the assistance of the Chautauqua County Baseball Umpires' Association, will once again sponsor the High School Baseball Showcase on April 25 and April 26, at Russell E. Diethrick Park, in Jamestown.
This is the eighth year of the resurrection of the Baseball Showcase, which was conceived in the 1980's and will feature 12 high school baseball teams from Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties in a schedule of six games over the two-day period.
The showcase gives local high school players an opportunity to play in a professional baseball stadium and hopefully be seen by a college coach or two, who have been notified about the event and will hopefully be in attendance.
The schedule for the Baseball Showcase is as follows:
Friday, April 25
4:30 West Valley vs. Pine Valley, 4:30 p.m.
7:30 Frewsburg vs. Falconer, 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, April 26
Brocton vs. Panama, 10 a.m.
Maple Grove vs Westfield, 1 p.m.
Randolph vs. Chautauqua Lake, 4 p.m.
Southwestern vs. Gowanda, 7 p.m.
A gate fee of $1 for students in grades K-12 - and senior citizens - will be charged. The cost for adults is $2. Proceeds will go to help fund Falconer High School's baseball program, the Umpires' Association Baseball Scholarship and to off-set some of the costs of operating the showcase.
