The Fredonia State baseball team dropped a non-conference game to Allegheny College at Ludwig Field by a score of 11-5 on Thursday.
The Blue Devils took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as Dan Cecilia and Mike Prentice started off the frame with a pair of singles. Kenny Johnston loaded the bases by reaching on a fielder's choice. Groundouts by freshmen Liam Kelly and Brian Castonguay accounted for the two runs.
Allegheny responded with four runs in the top of the third.
The Devils pulled within a run in the bottom of the third. Conner Lorenzo singled, stole second and advanced to third on a groundout. He eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Allegheny answered with seven runs over the next five innings.
The Devils tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth. Following a pair of walks, freshman Dan Lumadue stroked a base hit to plate one run. The game's final run scored on a wild pitch.
Ricky Mendiola reached base safely in three out of four at bats with a single, double and a walk. Prentice also added a pair of hits.
Jason Howard got his first collegiate work in on the mound, throwing a scoreless ninth inning. Carl Wolf and Ben Senior pitched a combined eight innings in the game.
The loss drops the Blue Devils to 10-18 on the year. They will head to Cortland Friday morning to play their last conference series of the season. The doubleheader has been moved to Friday and the single game to Saturday due to rain in the forecast. First pitch on Friday is slated for around 1:15 p.m.
