Spring rummage sale on Friday in Dunkirk
The First United Presby-terian Church of Dunkirk Ladies' Guild will hold its spring rummage sale Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon at Westminster Hall, 410 Eagle St., Dunkirk. Parking is available in the parking lot next to the church. Money raised from the sale will be used to support local, national and world missions.
Cassadaga Library Association meets today
The Cassadaga Library Association will meet today at 3 p.m. at the Cassadaga Branch Library, 18 Maple Ave., Cassadaga. Plans for the Annual Walk Around The Lake to be held May 24 will be discussed. This event provides funds for library programs and materials throughout the year. Members and interested volunteers are encouraged to attend the meeting.
Spring Fling Craft and Vendor Show Saturday
A sure sign of spring in the area is the return of the Spring Fling Craft and Vendor Show on Saturday. The event will take place at the Sheridan Community Center (formerly St. John Bosco Hall), 2773 Main Road, Sheridan, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event will have a mix of hand-crafted gift booths and small home businesses from about 30 western New York vendors. Vendors will sell everything from jams to jewelry, blankets to beach glass, candles to candy, paper, wood glass and more. Small home business vendors include Tupperware, Thirty-One Gifts, Papa-razzi, Tastefully Simple and Mary Kay Cosmetics.
A $1 admission fee will benefit the American Can-cer Society. Refreshments will be available and will benefit the Lakeshore Humane Society.

Learn the basics about Alzheimer's, dementia at Dunkirk Library
Alzheimer's disease is not a normal part of aging. It is a progressive and fatal brain disease that is the most common form of dementia.
"The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia and Alz-heimer's Disease" is a free class, presented by the Alzheimer's Association Western New York Chapter, for anyone who would like to know more about the disease and related dementias. The class is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday in the Dunkirk Free Library at 535 Central Ave.
Attendees will learn symptoms and effects of Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia, how Alzheimer's affects the brain, causes and risk factors, how to find out if it's Alzheimer's disease, benefits of early detection, treatment and resources in your community, including the Alzheimer' Association WNY Chapter

Gowanda Harley-Davidson to host E-Scrap 4 Camp
Gowanda Harley-David-son, 2535 Gowanda Zoar Road, will host E-Scrap 4 Camp to benefit Camp Good Days today through Friday.
There is no charge to turn electronic trash into proceeds for Camp Good Days. Electronics will be accepted from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., today through Wednesday, and 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., on Thursday and Friday.

Lyme disease awareness event Tuesday evening
A lyme disease aware-ness event will be held at the Angels of Hope, 8 Park Place, Fredonia, on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Presenters will be Brenda Reading and Gail Heil. The documentary "Under Our Skin" will be viewed. Information about symptoms, diagnosis and testing, and treatments will be available.
Lake Erie Bird Club meets today
The Lake Erie Bird Club meets today at 7:30 p.m. at BOCES, Fredonia-Stockton Road, Fredonia. The program will be "Celebrating Birds." open rehearsals Tuesday
The Chautauqua Child-ren's Chorale, an ensemble-in-residence at the SUNY Fredonia School of Music, will have open rehearsals for any 3-11 grade students interested in singing on Tuesday.
The Junior Chorale (3-6 grades) will rehearse from 5-6 p.m., and the Concert Chorale (6-12 grades) will rehearse from 6:15-8:15 p.m. in Room 1024 of Mason Hall. Parents are welcome to attend, as well.

for book talk today about Western New York steelmaking
The history of Western New York Steel will be discussed at a book talk today from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Japanese Garden Room in Reed Library.
SUNY Fredonia alumnus Spencer Morgan will discuss his recently published book, "Western New York Steel." As a former curator for the Steel Plant Museum of Western New York, he will talk about the history of Western New York steel and reflect on the process of writing and assembling the material from his book.
Morgan graduated from Fredonia in 2008 with a degree in history.

Jazzy Derby Party Saturday
The Chautauqua Area Habitat for Humanity will hold a Jazzy Derby Party Saturday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Samuel Cimino Silver Creek VFW Post 6472.
Tickets are $20 and include an evening of fun and chance, a barbecue meal prepared by Chef Matt Brunner, a run for the roses raffle with great prizes, live music by the SUNY Fredonia Latin Jazz Ensemble and cash bar featuring well drinks, mint juleps, wine and beer.

Jog for Jimmy Saturday
The fourth annual Jog for Jimmy will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. The 5K fun run and walk will start at the Pine Valley Elemen-tary School. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. Entry fee is $10 for pre-registration and $15 the day of the race. A 50/50 drawing and silent auction will be held immediately after the race.
All proceeds will go directly to the Muscular Dystrophy Association for Duchenne Muscular Dys-trophy research.
