Ernest H. "Ernie" Maslach, 81, passed peace-fully Wednesday morning (April 30, 2014) after a lengthy illness.
He was born Jan. 6, 1933, in Dunkirk. A lifelong resident of Fredonia, NY, he was known locally for his beef and honey.
A parishioner of Holy Trinity Church, Ernie was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 929. He was a 4th degree member of the Cardinal Mindszenty Assembly and served as District 76 Deputy.

Ernie's passions were agriculture and animal husbandry. He worked with Cornell Cooperative Extension and the Cornell Genetic Improvement Program for Beef Cattle. He was the 2000 NY Beef Producer's Association Cattleman of the Year & served as president of the organization. He also worked in leadership of the 4-H.
Survivors include his children: Tari Rienzo (Charles) of Cleveland, OH, Ron Cooley (Wanda) of Hillsborough, NC, Linda Austin of Erie, PA, Brian Maslach of Colorado Springs, CO, and Robert Maslach (Tanya) of LaJolla, CA; his grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew Austin and Michelle Cooley; three sisters, Mary Wisniewski of Dunkirk, Martha Dybka of Fredonia, and Lillian Napieralski (Frank) of Dunkirk, his great-grandchildren, many nieces & nephews, a large extended family and his longtime companion, Alene "Pat" Barrus of Fredonia.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock in Holy Trinity Church. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 4-7p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
