WESTFIELD - An investigation into narcotics-related activity has led to the arrest of a Lakewood man.
Chautauqua County Sheriff's Deputies responded to 8378 Schultz Drive in the town of Westfield to investigate a suspicious situation.
Neighbors had reported that there were subjects staying in a residence at that location and that there was a strange odor coming from the residence. Once at the location, deputies found Christopher L. Swanson, 43, of 41 W. Summit Ave. in Lakewood.
After a brief interview, Swanson was detained and deputies called the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force for assistance. After a search of the residence by Task Force officers and deputies, they located the precursors used in the production of methamphetamine, a quantity of methamphetamine, a quantity of marijuana and a shotgun.
As a result of locating these items, the Chautau-qua County Hazmat Team was called to the scene to render safe and collect toxic items produced by the process of making methamphetamine. The Hazmat team took possession of the toxic materials and will dispose of those items.
Swanson has been initially charged with criminal possession of precursors of methamphetamine, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.
As a result of a criminal history check of Swanson, he will be charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, as he has felony convictions from the state of Alaska.
Additional charges for Swanson are pending based on the result of this investigation.
The investigation is continuing at this time. Additional suspects are being sought, and arrests are anticipated.
