Forestville Central School Superintendent Charles “Chuck” Leichner was appointed the new superintendent of Cassadaga Valley.
He began his career in 1985 as a high school history teacher, and in 1991 he became principal of the Levant Christian School in Falconer. He then went on to become a high school English teacher and interim middle school principal for the Falconer Central School District. In 2003, Leichner moved to the Forestville Central School district as the secondary principal, before becoming superintendent in 2012.
Erie 2 BOCES Superintendent Dr. David O'Rourke searched nearly 30 candidates who were interested in this position, but feels Leichner is the best one for the job.
"Chuck Leichner has the characteristics and leadership traits that will benefit the school district and community," he said. "Chuck is a bright, experienced, and skilled educational leader. I am looking forward to working with Chuck as he takes on this new leadership position at Cassadaga Valley."
Board President Carl Perry commented on what Leichner will offer his district.
"Mr. Leichner will be a wonderful asset to our school district. His record of improving student performance will serve our students well," he said. "We are excited about his leadership style and record of achievement."
Leichner's career has been focused on increasing opportunities for students and supporting the interests of the school communities he has served. His hands- on leadership works well with the common core learning standards.
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve the Cassadaga Valley faculty, staff, students and community as their new Superintendent of Schools. I look forward to working with the staff on behalf of all the students and the entire community," he said. "The pride and enthusiasm demonstrated by those who participated in the interview proved to me why the Cassadaga Valley School District is a great school district."
Perry finds the characteristic traits Leichner possesses to be admirable.
"He is an effective communicator, great people person, and we have gotten great feedback from others he has worked with in the past," he said. "He can relate to what it takes to be successful. We are excited for him to realize our potential. We are very fortunate to welcome him into the Cassadaga family. We didn't just make this decision as a board, but we made it as a community, and that is very important."
Leichner said what attracted him to this school district was its good standing.
Interim Superintendent Thomas Schmidt is very pleased to pass the reigns over to Leichner.
"Chuck has done a wonderful job in Forestville and he is a good fit for Cassadaga," he said. "He has the qualifications and personality to fit this district. I am very happy for the teachers and Mr. Leichner."
