BROCTON - Public meetings are slated for town of Portland taxpayers regarding the property record data collection scheduled to begin this year.
Portland Town Supervisor Dan Schrantz announced recently during the town council meeting that following a meeting between him, town assessor Dea Anna Wheeler and representatives from KLW Group and the state Office of Real Property and Tax Services, three public meetings have been scheduled to discuss the data collection.
On Saturday, July 26 a public meeting for east lake shore residents will be held at 10 a.m. at the Van Buren Point Club House. Two meetings will be held on Monday, July 28: one at 2 p.m. at the Portland Town Hall and then again at 7 p.m. at Brocton Central School. KLW, the firm selected by the town to formally update town property records, and ORPTS representatives will be at the meetings to answer any questions from concerned residents on how the data collection of town property information will proceed.
The supervisor noted that town residents should check their mail for a mass mailing including contact information for KLW representatives which will outline what their role is and what the property record data collection will entail. After the mailing is distributed, KLW representatives expect to begin their field work across the town.
Schrantz also noted to council members that Wheeler, in preparation for the data collection, has updated 911 numbers to improved-upon parcels that were missing address numbers, and that she is waiting on: state and county wetland maps; street names in the town and village; soil erosion, fire district maps and neighborhood maps in order to update her files accurately.
In other matters, the council unanimously approved the appointment of Sheila Lawrence to fill a vacancy on the town's zoning board.
Revisiting a previous agenda item, the council resolved to schedule a meeting with the town's planning board to discuss subdivisions.
The council's next regular board meeting will be held on Aug. 13 at the Club House at Van Buren Point from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
