James T. Luczkowiak, 83, of Fredonia died peacefully Saturday morning (July 12, 2014) at home.
He was born Dec. 15, 1930 in Lackawanna, the son of the late Edward and Mary (Nowicki) Luczkowiak.
A lifelong area resident, Mr. Luczkowiak was a graduate of Dunkirk High School, Class of 1949, and SUNY Fredonia in 1956.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean Conflict from 1949-1952.
He had been employed as a teacher at Lake Shore Central School in Angola, retiring in 1988.
An avid reader and life-long learner, especially history and science, Mr. Luczkowiak enjoyed photography, carpentry, and was known for his attention to detail in his work.
James especially enjoyed spending time with his family and they were the light of his life.
He was a member of various clubs in the Dunkirk-Fredonia area.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Janet (Hunt) Luczkowiak; one daughter, Mary Beth (Anthony D.) Dolce of Dunkirk; two sons, Thomas Luczkowiak of Brocton and Michael J. (Robyn) Luczkowiak of Wind Gap, Pa.; 12 grandchildren, Anthony J. (Jordyn), Nathan (Marcella), and Andreanna Dolce; Erin, Ryan (Ashley Packard), and James Robert Luczkowiak; Nicholas, Christopher (Kelly), Jonathan J., Thomas, Katelyn, and Megan Luczkowiak; seven great-grandchildren, Alex J., Anthony, Maria, Evan J., Matthew, Elizabeth, and Louie.
Also survived by former daughter-in-law, Ellen Luczkowiak.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, J. James Luczkowiak, Stanley Luczkowiak, Al Lutz, Clemens J. Lutz, and Leonard Luczkowiak; and three sisters, Bernice Hackman, Helen Bielat, and Monica Czekanski.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock in Holy Trinity Church. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Burial will be in Laona Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined.
