Work on replacing a 4-inch city of Dunkirk water line on Eagle Street between West Second Street and Lake Shore Drive is underway. The project, which began Tuesday, is expected to be finished no later than Monday, according to Department of Public Works Director Tony Gugino, with the city to rebuild the street where any diggings or entries were made. St. George Enterprises of Fredonia was the low bidder for the project at $32,900 to replace the failing 4-inch cast iron line that has had numerous breaks in the last three years with a 4-inch plastic line. "My wish is to start replacing some of the worst sections of constantly-failing water lines each year with whatever money can be budgeted toward that goal," Gugino stated.
