Fredonia loses soccer game to SW
OBSERVER Staff Reports
Despite a 3-1 girls soccer loss to the visiting Southwestern Lady Trojans Thursday night, the mood inside Fredonia’s Orange Bowl downtown was festive as Fredonia High School opened its homecoming activities.
“If you were there you had fun, if you weren’t you wish you were. It was a fantastic atmosphere,” Fredonia coach Brett Gould said.
The event featured a parade with floats made by the high schoolers, who were treated to a bonfire and a cookout after the game.
“We’re extremely thankful for the student body and the administration …we’re blessed to have the community we have and they deserve recognition too,” Gould said.
During the game, Southwestern (10-2, 5-2) scored three times before the Lady Hillbillies responded. Karen Johnson scored eight minutes in off an assist by Ashley Lundmark. With about seven minuts to go in the first half, Kylie Brown netted a goal, assisted by Alison Lundmark. And in the eighth minute of the second half, Hadyn Swan-Leuze scored, Johnson picking up the assist.
Fredonia (1-8-1, 1-6) got on the board 15 minutes into the second half on a Melissa Berg goal. Paige Supkoski was credited with the assist.
Bre Rosen made seven saves for Fredonia. The Lady Trojans’ Alanna Dibble had six saves.
“It was a fast paced game, there was a ton of energy,” Gould said. “Our girls played absolutely brilliant… we learned a brand new system yesterday and we thought we’d try it. Give the kids credit, they trusted the process and each other.
“Southwestern is ranked No. 14 in the state,” the Fredonia coach continued. “We have an immense amount of respect for their program… you saw a lot of players hug after the game, they’ve developed friendships off the field.”
Fredonia will be back at the Orange Bowl Tuesday, under the lights again at 7 p.m., when they host rival Dunkirk.
OLEAN 6, DUNKIRK 2
Powered by five goals from Calista Heister, four in the first half, the Olean girls soccer team won on the field of CCAA West rival Dunkirk Thursday.

SILVER CREEK 3, CHAUTAUQUA LAKE 1
SILVER CREEK — The Silver Creek Lady Black Knights (10-2, 7-1) put up three second-half goals on Senior Night to defeat Chautauqua Lake 4-1 in CCAA Central girls soccer.
Emma Rice put up the first goal of the game in the seventh minute off the leg of sister Abby Rice to go up, 1-0. However, Chautauqua Lake would tie the game up at 1-1 going into halftime.
“We had a lot of chances in the the first half and couldn’t convert,” Silver Creek coach Kevin Rice said. “Also defensively, we were a little out of sorts, but we ended up tightening it up in the second half.”
18 minutes into the second half, Chloe Barrett booted in the go-ahead goal via an assist from Emma Rice. Emma Rice then later scored in the 33rd minute of the half courtesy of an assist from Carly Barrett. NORTH COLLINS 2, FREWSBURG 1
FREWSBURG — North Collins’ Emily Winter netted an overtime goal three minutes into the first overtime to carry the Lady Eagles (7-1-1) ahead for a 2-1 victory of Frewsburg (6-4-1) in a CCAA Central matchup.
Frewsburg got on board first with a goal by Maddie Sohl in the 25th minute.
Despite being down 1-0 at the half, North Collins coach Vince Fininzio said his team carried on.
“We continued to play the game hard and not get out of what we have been doing all season,” Fininzio said. “We battled a little harder in the second half and overtime to win the 50-50 balls, which ultimately gave us more scoring chances.”
Those scoring chances put the Lady Eagles on the board 15 minutes into the second half.
Off the foot of Brianna Krawczyk, the Lady Eagles tied the game at 1-all.
Myah Gabel was in net for the Lady Eagles as she had five saves in the win. Alyssa Lobb was the goaltender for Frewsburg.
