CCCA awards scholarships

The Chautauqua County Counselors’ Association recently awarded their annual scholarships to Hannah Binkley and Jillian Valvo. The CCCA Scholarships are presented to outstanding students who will be pursuing a degree in a counseling related field.

Hannah Binkley will be graduating third in her class of 70 students from Falconer Central School in June. While attending Falconer, Hannah was enrolled in a rigorous academic program of study during her senior year.

Beyond academics, Hannah was involved in athletics and extracurricular activities.  She has participated on the Varsity Tennis team, JV and Varsity Basketball, and Varsity Track teams, along with the Girls’ Athletic Association. Hannah was also a member of the Student Council, chorus, band and school musicals. Furthermore, she has been involved in Envirothon, Math Club and is a member of the Falconer Honor Society.  What stands out on Hannah’s resume is her involvement in the community.  She seeks out opportunities to help in school as well as in her church, where she has taken an active role in joining the Leadership Team as well as the Worship Team. She has even taken mission trips to Chicago and Washington D.C.

Hannah has received several honors and awards while attending Falconer central School including the Fessenden, Laumer, and DeAngelo Scholar Athlete award, the Division Coaches Sportsmanship award for basketball, and All-County Band and Chorus awards. Hannah plans to attend North Park University in Chicago. While attending North Park, Hannah plans to study psychology and would like to become a school counselor when she graduates.

Jillian Valvo will be graduating from Fredonia Central School in June. While attending Fredonia, Jillian was a member of the National Honor Society, Foreign Language Club President, a member of the Interact Club, Captain of the Varsity Tennis Team, Yearbook Club, and was a stage crewmember for the school musicals.

Jillian’s community involvement is extensive. She has volunteered for St Susan’s Center and also served as a camp counselor for STEM camp, and was a Little Buddies Viola teacher. Jillian also served as the chairperson of the committee that made bags for hurricane victims this past year.

While attending Fredonia Central School Jillian received several honors and awards including the Pride Student of the Month and the Principal’s Award. Jillian will be attending SUNY Geneseo in the fall where she will be studying Early Childhood Education.
