Chautauqua Lake Central School announces Students of the Month

Bryanna Davis

Students of the Month at Chautauqua Lake Central School, honored for October achievements, are Bryanna Davis, Naomi Fisher, Hailey Roush, Sydney Hawkins, Jenna Harle, and Brittney Majewski. The student recognition program honors students in grades 7 through 12 whose classroom performance, attitude toward learning, work ethic and extracurricular activities set them apart.

Senior Bryanna Davis is the daughter of Lisa and Richard Davis of Dewittville. Field Science, Drawing & Design for Production & Manufacturing II, and Conservation at the BOCES Hewes Center are the classes she enjoys the most. Bry has competed on the school’s volleyball team since her freshman year, greatly contributing to the success of the team. Last year she also joined Trap Club. She has previously been named a Student of the Month at CLCS, and last spring she was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society. Outside of school, Bry enjoys hunting, shooting trap, hiking, camping, kayaking, and snowmobiling. When asked what historical person she admires, Bry replied, “My parents and grandparents. They’re hardworking and always manage to handle any twist that comes at them in life.” Bry would not like to be another person for a day because, “I like who I am.” She plans to attend college to study heavy equipment operation or agriculture.

Naomi Fisher, daughter of Martin and Sara Fisher of Ripley, is a junior who names Spanish and math as her favorite subjects. Naomi has been an active member of Student Administration since her freshman year. She is a Peer Educator, was inducted into the National Honor Society, competes on the High School Bowl academic team, works on the yearbook staff, and competes on the tennis team. Outside of school, Naomi enjoys working at Knight Vineyards and volunteering. Naomi admires Ruth Bader Ginsburg, citing her “determination, strength, and everything else she stands for.” Naomi looks forward to college. She would like to become a doctor and work for Doctors Without Borders.

Sophomore Hailey Roush, daughter of Dan and Marcy Roush of Mayville, selects geometry and health as her favorite subjects. Hailey is an avid athlete as shown in her basketball and soccer accomplishments: Last year, she was the JV basketball captain, was named a Scholar Athlete for soccer, and was chosen soccer Defensive Player of the Year. This year, she was the captain of the varsity soccer team. She also enjoys singing in the select chorale and is active in the Language Club. Outside of school, Hailey pursues her love of sports by competing in an indoor soccer league; participating in Chautauqua Fusion, a travel basketball team; and helping with Shooting Stars basketball. She also enjoys baking and running. When asked what historical person she admires, Hailey chose Malala Yousafzai “for standing up for female education and fighting for women’s as well as children’s rights. She is also the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.” If she could be another person for a day, Hailey would like to be Hope Solo because “she is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and World Cup Champion as a soccer goalkeeper.” Hailey would like to attend college and play soccer at the college level.

Sydney Ryan Hawkins, a freshman, is the daughter of Ryan and Julianne Hawkins of Ripley. She enjoys all of her classes but finds algebra, Spanish, Global Studies, and biology “fascinating.” Sydney is very active in a wide variety of school activities, including High School Bowl, Peer Education, Peer Tutoring and Language Club. She is also an accomplished athlete, competing on the softball and volleyball teams since seventh grade. She twice earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team for volleyball. Sydney also received academic awards in seventh and eighth grade, participated in the Voice of Democracy competition this year, and earned recognition for the Patriot’s Pen essay in grades 6-8. Outside of school, Sydney loves playing sports, reading, writing, exercising, and going for walks. When asked what person she admires, Sydney stated “Those who had the courage to stand up for what they believe in, because they wouldn’t submit to something that defied what they stood for.” For a day, she would like to be Albert Einstein “so that I could experience firsthand how his mind worked.” Her plans involve “taking advantage of all high school opportunities and maintaining a solid work ethic into whatever it is I end up doing. Basically, I want to make the end result worth the journey.”

Eighth grader Jenna Allyson Harle is the daughter of Mike and Julie Harle of Mayville. She enjoys social studies and math the most this year. Jenna has competed on the JV volleyball team since seventh grade and the softball team last year. She has also sung in chorus for two years. Outside of school, she enjoys snowmobiling, four wheeling, and swimming in the summer. Jenna admires Anne Frank because “she never lost hope of living through the war and getting out of the annex.” If she could be anyone else for a day, Jenna would like to be her sister “because I look up to her in many ways.” She plans a career as a middle school math teacher.

Brittney Morgan Majewski, a seventh grader, is the daughter of Jennifer Majewski of Mayville. This year, Brittney enjoys English and math classes the most. In school, she has competed on the soccer and basketball teams. Outside of school, she loves pursuing art. When asked what historical figure she most admires, Brittney selected entertainer, activist, and French Resistance agent Josephine Baker. If she could be another person for a day, Brittney would choose her mother because “I love her and want to be like her. I also want to know what it feels like to be a mom.” She is considering a career as a photographer or a chef.
