Beekeepers group
meets March 14
The Chautauqua County Beekeepers Association will hold its monthly membership meeting on Thursday, March 14 at 7 p.m. at the Fluvanna Community Church, 3363 Fluvanna Ave., in Jamestown.
At this meeting an informal forensic examination of a bee hive whose colony unexpectedly died out will be conducted. A hands-on analysis of the physical evidence will focus on the usual suspects of disease, starvation and parasitic mites. The meeting will also feature timely roundtable discussions of seasonal apiary management duties such as assessing winter stores, feeding during the critical March through April period, and purchasing bees.
Tabulation of the ballots for the election of 2024-25 officers will also be conducted, the results announced and the successful candidates duly installed. This meeting is open to the public free of charge.
Beginners are especially welcome. Previous experience in beekeeping, while helpful, is not necessary. In the event of traveler’s advisories, this meeting will be postponed. If in doubt, consult the CCBA Facebook page for confirmation. For more information, e-mail the club at ccba1870@gmail.com.

Poor farms were established in most New York state counties, including Chautauqua County, in the 1830s. The poor farm was a function of the county government.
