Group knits and crochets for charity
SILVER CREEK — The Secret Society of the Twisted Stitchers, a group of handiwork enthusiasts at Anderson-Lee Library in Silver Creek, has been hard at work creating items for two different groups in the Western New York area.
The group creates caps and booties to go with the one-of-a-kind final photo and burial gowns created from donated wedding dresses that Angel Gowns make and donate to area hospitals. The mission of Angel Gowns is to provide these gowns as a way to offer comfort to grieving families during their time of loss.
The Twisted Stitchers are also creating knit squares to donate to Roswell Hospital. These squares will then be turned into blankets and given to patients receiving care at the hospital. To date, the Twisted stitchers have knit close to 200 squares and continue to work on them in their spare time or during group meetings.
This community minded group meets every Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Anderson-Lee Library, located at 43 Main St. Anyone interested in any kind of handiwork is welcome to join in at any time. No registration is necessary and you do not need to commit to each week to attend. Join in when you can!
Ages 10 and older and all skill levels are welcome. Please bring your own supplies. Just getting started? For knitting, bring size 10/10.5 bamboo needles and a light-colored worsted weight yarn (#4). For crochet, bring a size H hook and light-colored worsted weight yarn (#4). Come and learn or come and work on a project with others who love to knit, crochet, embroider, quilt etc.!
