Classic tale being presented at Main Street Studios
It is not every day, that a group of four siblings takes on an amazing quest, but on a dreary day in England during World War II, the Pevensie children did just that, according to the classic tale “The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe” by C.S. Lewis.
The story, published in 1950, tells of the children who are sent to a distant old mansion, to be safe from the ongoing turmoil. The house is full of exciting mysteries, but the greatest one of all, comes from an empty room with nothing but a large wardrobe in it. Upon entering, they pass through to the world of Narnia, where animals talk, and an evil witch has enchanted it, making it always winter, but never Christmas.
Upon their arrival they learn of a prophecy which states that the castle of Cair Paravel must be occupied by 2 Sons of Adam, and 2 Daughters of Eve, in order to restore peace to the land. Their arrival also triggers the return of the true ruler, Aslan, the great lion, and a thaw begins. In an epic tale of good versus evil, with the Christian undertones of C.S. Lewis’s writings, the children, and Aslan must battle their way to destroy the evil witch, to fulfill the prophecy of the Emperor Beyond the Sea.
This story will unfold on stage at Main Street Studios, at 7 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Monday. Directed by Broadway fight choreographer, and professor of Theater Arts at SUNY Fredonia, Ted Sharon, with assistance from Emma Newton, this show will be a thrill for the young and old alike. The cast consists of a talented group of community members and local school and college students, that will excite local audiences, as they finally bring Christmas back to Narnia.
