The Cinema Series continues at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center with screenings of the hit Oscar-nominated film “A Complete Unknown” on Saturday and Tuesdsay at 7:30 p.m. The film was nominated for eight Oscars including Best Picture.
Set in the influential New York music scene of the early 1960s, “A Complete Unknown” follows 19-year-old Minnesota musician Bob Dylan’s (Timothée Chalamet) meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts – his songs and mystique becoming a worldwide sensation – culminating in his groundbreaking electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.
Newsday calls the film “a deep-reaching drama about the formative years of a 20th-century icon.” The Australian calls it “five stars of pure entertainment underpinned by a 10-star performance by Timothée Chalamet.” Playlist says “(Director) Mangold has crafted the definitive portrait of this era and the poetic, aspiring, rebellious kid who refused to be pigeonholed, held down and defined.” The Toronto Star calls it “something close to magic.” Rated R for language, “A Complete Unknown” runs two hours, 21 minutes.
Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening.
