‘Wiz’ to be performed in Westfield

On Friday and Saturday, at 7:30 p.m., Westfield Academy and Central School will be presenting the musical “The Wiz,” music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls, Book by William F. Brown. “The Wiz” is based on the book “The Wizard of Oz” by Frank Baum and is a contemporary re-telling of the original story, with music from many genres of popular style. It features a cast of 150 students total from grades three to 12. Follow the adventures of Dorothy (Gianna Douglas) as she meets up with a Scarecrow (Kameron Cady), a Tinman (Mat Shuster), a Lion (Noah Tuah) in Oz where they must seek the help of “The Wiz” (Zachary Wolfe), kill Evillene, the wicked witch of the West (McKenna Campbell) and are aided by the good witches Addaperle (Naomi Ottey) and Glinda (Taylor Thompson). “The Wiz” is directed by Kent Knappenberger and choreographed by Janie Villella Sharon. There is never a dull moment in this energetic and joyful adaptation of a beloved story. Tickets are $6 for students and senior citizens and $8 for adults.
