Dunkirk Fredonia Lions club keeping busy

The Dunkirk Fredonia Lions Club has been busy.

On Aug. 19, the club had its member picnic at Russell Joy Park in Fredonia and invited several of the community’s blind and sight impaired citizens to join them. It was a chance to give back and treat the guests to an enjoyable evening with a very tasty barbeque brisket and pulled pork dinner prepared by Dave Schanzlin.

Two days later, on Aug. 21, the same sight impaired guests were treated to a concert at the Music at the Point event featuring DTO as the musical entertainment. The club provided transportation and refreshments. “It’s hard to get to these kinds of events,” said one of the guests, “so we appreciate the Lions Club helping us to get here.” The group was treated to a pizza dinner donated by Pizza Village and homemade dessert provided by Lions Club members.

Over the weekend of Aug. 24-25, the club was pleased to participate at the Fredonia Farm Festival. The club had a raffle for a cooler which was won by Mr. Tom Hebiesen. The club gave out water, information about Lions Clubs, and also had a box of donated sunglasses that were available to the public free of charge and were a hotly requested item.

The Lions Club was then pleased to be a part of the Dunkirk City Schools Back to School Bash event on Aug. 26, by organizing the “Tame Your Mane” hair cutting station. Students were invited to get a free back to school haircut from local stylists who donated their time. “Mr. Lion,” the mascot, was present to greet the children and lollipops were given out. The event was deemed a success and plans to expand the event for next year were discussed.

Starting at $2.99/week.
