Historian speaks to Genealogical Society
CASSADAGA — Norman Carlson from Busti, who now serves as the Chautauqua County Historian, was the guest speaker at the recent Chautauqua County Genealogical Society meeting in the Cassadaga American Legion meeting hall. Carlson has been the historian for more than four months now and wanted to relate to the group some of his duties and his methods of research.
Carlson told about the many records that are available for research, including land records, court records and maps. He said he is available in the county office building in Mayville and has much to absorb.
Carlson had two manuals which describe all that is available. He encouraged people to go to their public library and begin to use the computers there. This was a very interesting and informative talk enjoyed by all.
The meeting was opened by Ruth Nichols, town of Arkwright historian and current president for many years. John Sipos, Cassadaga Village historian and Town of Stockton historian led all in the pledge to the flag. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by secretary Maureen Davis, and the financial report was presented by treasurer Debbie Kotar. Wayne Leamer is the newsletter editor.
