Students of month announced in Gowanda
The Student Council of Gowanda High School named six outstanding Panthers as Students of the Month for December. Honorees are selected based on the following attributes – collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity – otherwise known as The Four C’s. These skills and characteristics are central to the district’s mission and values.
They include:
— Nina Coulon for creativity: “Nina has worked very hard over the past year to develop and expand her beading skills. She has made several successful pieces and has even started teaching others what she knows. Nina often takes the initiative to work on her projects during her free periods as well. I’ve very proud of her dedication and perseverance!” – art teacher Mrs. Heather Rydzik.
— Caitlyn Gangi for critical thinking: “As a dedicated member of GHS Chorus, Caitlyn exemplifies all of the 4 Cs (creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking). Recently, her collaborative efforts were on display as a member of the 2024 NYSSMA All-State Mixed Chorus. Over the span of four days, Caitlyn collaborated in rehearsals with the top student musicians across New York State. Together, the chorus successfully executed a demanding concert program at the Kodak Hall at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY under the direction of Dr. Andrea Ramsey. Congratulations on this outstanding achievement, Caitlyn!” – music teacher Ms. Robin Smith.
— Derick Hitchcock for critical thinking: “Derick takes each classroom activity and assignment and thoroughly looks at it critically from all angles. Oftentimes going above and beyond the analysis that is required. He is always asking thought provoking questions or comes up with answers that shows he is a critical thinker and doesn’t just settle with a basic, simple answer or idea.” – teacher Ms. Jacquie Shields.
— Logan Kehr for communication: “Logan consistently demonstrates exceptional communication skills through his thoughtful contributions to class discussions, always offering insightful interpretations of literature that enrich our collective learning. Logan’s willingness to support his peers and his positive energy elevates English class and our learning environment.” – English teacher Mr. Riley.
— Drew Kota for communication: “I have chosen Drew Kota as the Chemistry Student of the Month for Communication. Drew has been an amazing example of taking full responsibility for his learning. Whenever he doesn’t completely understand something, he asks for help or clarification. He acknowledges that he needs to have a deep understanding of the chemistry content before he is able to move on to the next topic. I am excited to have Drew on board this year and can’t wait to see all he accomplishes!” – science teacher Ms. Emma Relosky.
— Brayden Smith for collaboration: “Brayden Smith has been doing an excellent job in JCC Statistics this year, asking questions, discussing problems, working with other students in the class (like Blake Herman) and participating in collaborative discussions. He exhibits great energy and lifts the class spirits whenever they are down!” – math teacher Mr. James Reeves.
