CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT
— PORTLAND — A pair of incidents on back-to-back days have led to charges for at least three individuals.
On Dec. 3, Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies took a report for a past tense assault that occurred at about 2:30 a.m. that day. Through an investigation it was determined that Rebecca J. Gard, 23, of Portland convinced a victim to meet her at a Lake Avenue address in the town of Portland. Upon doing so, that victim was attacked by Phillip M. Whitfield, 29, and beaten up. During the altercation Whitfield and Gard allegedly stole property from the victim.
Whitfield, also of Portland, was issued tickets for second-degree harassment, third-degree robbery, second-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree aggravated harassment and fourth-degree criminal mischief due to him not meeting the bail requirement. Gard was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and petit larceny and also arrested for having an active city of Dunkirk warrant and was transported to Dunkirk to be arraigned. Both were to be in the Town of Portland Court at a later date and time.
On Dec, 4, deputies took a report of found property. Upon investigation it was discovered that Whitfield, Gard and Nicholas Marczynski, 28, of Dunkirk were in possession of property that did not belong to them. Whitfield and Gard were charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Marczynski is charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Whitfield and Marczynski were given appearance tickets and Rebecca will be arraigned on her charges while she is at the Chautauqua County Jail. They are all set to appear in the Town of Portland Court at a later date and time.
— GERRY — At around 9:59 a.m. Thursday, deputies were dispatched to a shoplifting that had occurred at a business on Route 60. Through an investigation it was found that 30-year-old Mark McKay had stolen property that did not belong to him. McKay was issued a ticket to be in town court at a later date.
