Man flees police, crashes stolen vehicle

A Jamestown man who was driving a stolen vehicle is facing charges after fleeing police and crashing into a structure.

At about 12:04 p.m. Sunday, Jamestown Police responded to a business on North Main Street to check on a blue Ford F-150 that had been reported stolen out of the town of Ellicott. As officers arrived on scene to check the vehicle, they observed a male subject enter a blue F150 in the parking lot of the business.

The vehicle then drove away and refused to pull over which led officers on a vehicle pursuit throughout the north side of the city. The vehicle continued west on Fluvanna Avenue heading outside of the city where the driver lost control of the F-150 and struck a building just outside the city limits. The F-150 attempted to flee the scene by striking a

Jamestown patrol car numerous times and striking a second patrol car almost hitting an officer. The pursuit ended after the F-150 became inoperable after crashing into a nearby ditch.

The driver, identified as 31-year-old Joseph L James, was taken into custody without incident. James was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, two counts of second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving and numerous vehicular traffic law charges.
