CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT
— ELLERY — After 11:30 p.m. Saturday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 430. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Drew C. Whidden, 46, of Bemus Point. Further investigation found Whidden to have been driving while intoxicated. Whidden was charged with DWI, aggravated DWI (BAC .18 or higher), and moving from lane unsafely.
He will be in town court later.
JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT
— Vanessa M Braun, 43, has been charged with second-degree assault, second-degree attempted burglary, second-degree menacing, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree reckless endangerment.
Her charges stem from an incident before 11 p.m. Saturday when officers responded to the area of West 10th and Washington streets for a female who was breaking windows in the area. Officers arrived on scene and indentified the suspect as Braun, who is homeless, on the sidewalk.
Officers were able to assess the damage and speak with victims on scene to determine that Braun had committed multiple crimes. Braun was taken into custody without incident and brought to the city jail. It was reported Braun had gone to a residence and began breaking windows with a paint can. When confronted by the homeowners, Braun then began chasing them with the paint can and struck one of the victims with the paint can causing injuries.
Braun then tried to follow the victim into the home and was attempting to force open the door to gain entry. She was being held pending arraignment.
— Selena N. Hare, 32, of Jamestown was charged with third-degree burglary and petit larceny.
At 1:45 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to 518 N. Main St. for an unwanted person. Upon arrival officers located Hare standing outside of the building.
Officers learned the Hare had been previously trespassed from the property and had entered the store. She took a large iced coffee before exiting the store without paying and still had the item upon officers arrival. She was held pending arraignment in the Jamestown City Jail.
— Austin R. Karash, 30, was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
At 4:37 p.m. Friday, officers were patrolling in the area of Prather Avenue and Broadhead when they stopped a vehicle for observed traffic violations. Through investigation, the sole occupant, Karash, was found to be in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine.
Karash was subsequently placed into custody and transported to the Jamestown City Jail without incident. He will return to city court to answer the charges later.
