DUNKIRK FIRE DEPARTMENT

A trash can fire damaged the wall of an apartment house in the city on Friday.

At approximately 3:37 p.m., the city of Dunkirk Fire Department was dispatched to 787 Deer St. Upon arrival, crews found that the exterior fire had spread into the wall of the apartment house. Quick action by residents and Dunkirk Police Officers kept the fire in check until firefighters could open the wall and extinguish it.

There were no injuries and the cause is currently under investigation.

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

— HARMONY — At 8:12 p.m. Friday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Route 474. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Charles A. Zellefrow, 45, of Panama. Further investigation found Zellefrow to be driving while intoxicated. Zellefrow was charged with DWI, DWI per se, and speed over 55 zone. Zellefrow will be in town court later.

— NORTH HARMONY — At about 5:10 a.m. Sunday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department responded to a vehicle complaint on Panama Stedman Road. On arrival deputies did locate a vehicle parked in the road with the engine running. The operator was identified as Ethan M. Mccray, 21, of Frewsburg.

After an investigation Mccray was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, and stopping/standing/parking on highway. Mccray was released and will return to court later.

JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT

— Alexis M. Ellsworth, 23, of Jamestown was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing. At 11:56 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to an address on the southside for a domestic dispute. Upon arrival officers learned the defendant Ellsworth obstructed another person from breathing. Ellsworth was transported to the city jail.

— Sally A. Johnson, 58, of Sinclairville was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. At 8:12 p.m. Saturday officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Cherry and West Seventh streets. During the course of the investigation it was determined that Johnson was in possession of a quantity of Hydrocodone which is a controlled substance. Johnson was taken into custody and transported to the Jamestown City Jail. Due to bail reform, she was booked and released.

— Austin Syper, 46, of Jamestown, was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and second-degree menacing. At 4:40 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a northside address for a domestic incident. Upon investigation, officers learned that Syper threatened to hit a victim onscene with a flashlight. Syper then damaged property belonging to the victim. Syper was taken into custody and transported to the Jamestown City Jail. He was being held in the Jamestown City Jail pending arraignment.
